Who We Are

The Inside Story of Who We Are here at Habitat for Humanity of Pope County.
Who We Are
Habitat for Humanity of Pope County is an independent entity of Habitat for Humanity International, the largest nonprofit builder of homes for families worldwide.
Our mission is to be able to help families transform their lives by helping them to build a sustainable home and offset the costs of home ownership by partnering with us and our local contractors to build and construct the very home in which they will live.

Our vision and desire is to ensure that everyone has a place that they can call home.
Our global mission statement: We are seeking to put God's love into motion. Habitat for Humanity of Pope County brings our community together to build homes and bring hope to those who are in need.

We areamazing!

One of the most common misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity in Pope County Arkansas is that our houses are given away. This is not the case: in fact, all of our homes are sold to qualifying families in our communities! Our goal is to be an affordable option for those who would otherwise not be in a position to realize the dream of home ownership. These factors make the houses affordable to qualifying people worldwide.

  • Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage.

  • Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision, cutting the cost of the homes back significantly.

  • Local individuals, corporations, faith groups, and others provide financial support.

Homeowner families are chosen according to their need, their ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage, and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat for Humanity Pope County Arkansas does not discriminate according to race, religion, gender, sexuality or family size. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner, or – as we call them – “partner families”. Upon the completion of construction, Habitat sells the homes to the partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. Every mortgage payment goes directly back into the Fund for Habitat for Humanity Pope County Arkansas (HFHPCA) to continue building homes in Pope County. Again, Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to covering their closing costs and making their monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor before even moving into their homes.

Habitat For Humanity of Pope County

Habitat for Humanity of Pope County strives to create a solution for various families within our community the opportunity of owning their own home. We do this through a cooperative effort of local volunteers that work hand-in-hand with our future homeowners to work together in the construction process of building their home.

We are not about giving handouts, but rather providing you with the tools you need to earn a handup. It's the core of the very foundation we have in place to enable us to create a sustainable home for your family.

HFH's Non-Proselytizing Policy

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations (including Habitat for Humanity of Pope County) will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat for Humanity work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as a part of their work they do with and for us. Eligibility Requirements

Please review the information below that explains several things required to participate in this unique program.
  • Potential Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need for safe,
affordable housing. Needs will vary from community to community.
  • Prospective households are low to moderate income. In the U.S., we
serve families whose income does not exceed 60% of the area median
income as defined for the area by the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development. Homeowner eligibility and selection take place at the
local level and it can vary from community to community.
  • Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the
process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity,” or helping
to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership
program. Sweat equity can also include taking homeownership classes or
    performing volunteer work.
  • Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable
mortgage. Habitat makes a reasonable effort to ensure that an affordable
mortgage does not exceed 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income.
Mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build
    additional Habitat houses.
