Homeowner Program
buiding brighter futures....
Habitat for Humanity of Pope County partners with families just like yours who are in need of decent affordable housing to call home.
We don't care who you are or where you come from, everyone deserves a place to call home. Habitat for Humanity of Pope County is here to provide you with a hand-up, not a handout to families who are in need.

People who are in our program partner with us and our amazing core of volunteers to help you establish and build a bright future for yourself and your family. We work with those who might not otherwise qualify for a traditional mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity of Pope County builds and rehabs homes across the River Valley area, which are available for purchase with an affordable mortgage.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Habitat for Humanity homeowner! We hope you find the income guidelines, required information meeting dates, and homeowner application easy to locate and helpful as you explore this opportunity.

This upcoming build is a Veterans Build. While all qualified applicants are welcome to apply, priority consideration will be given to a veteran household for this home. We strongly encourage veterans who are interested in affordable homeownership to attend an information meeting and learn more about partnering with Habitat for Humanity.

We’re grateful you’re here and look forward to sharing more about our program with you.

Eligibility Requirements

Please review the information below that explains several things required to participate in this unique program.
  • Potential Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need for safe,
affordable housing. Needs will vary from community to community.
  • Prospective households are low to moderate income. In the U.S., we
serve families whose income does not exceed 60% of the area median
income as defined for the area by the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development. Homeowner eligibility and selection take place at the
local level and it can vary from community to community.
  • Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the
process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity,” or helping
to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership
program. Sweat equity can also include taking homeownership classes or
    performing volunteer work.
  • Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable
mortgage. Habitat makes a reasonable effort to ensure that an affordable
mortgage does not exceed 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income.
Mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build
    additional Habitat houses.
